This August on our last leg of our sabbatical time we went to Barcelona. A fantastic city, buzing all day, and night, full of young adults and international people that lives "on the edge". There is so much creativity, street art, museums ,.. that after almost a week there I needed to move on and go to a calmer place.
We drove back north taking the coastal road and went to Figueres see Dali's Museum and then to Cadaques- see photo below- I love this town. Very international, a lot of artists and art everywhere. There is not too many beaches , but a lot of really nice rocks to jump off or walk on on your way to a swim. These white wall houses, hidden in their cove on the Costa Brava are forming a nice hub where you feel like you are in another world. everything seems to be perfect. We almost shortened our trip and settle there if it was not for the isolated location of the place. The road to access the village of Cadaques is just a two lanes road, serpenting up the mountain. We did not really feel comfortable settling so far away from everything , where the only way out on a friday afternoon might take hours.
Cadaques is the town where Salvodor Dali spent a lot of his time, where he got the most inspired by. As you hike or boat around the bay you can even recognize some rocks from his paintings. It is a FANTASTIC place to visit and get a sense of Dali's work. Don't forget to stop at Figueres on your way out..
